About The Toyota Automobile Museum

The Toyota Automobile Museum is dedicated to keeping the history of the automobile alive, and to enriching the future prospects of people and the automobile. People say that the world fell in love with the automobile in the 20th century. It is certainly true that the last century saw the relationship between people and cars take root. The intensity of this relationship led to the rapid evolution of automobiles, and had a lasting impact not only on everyday life but also on the structure of society. By the time we entered the 21st century, however, a new set of global challenges had emerged, including energy constraints and the problem of global warming. These problems are still with us. The Toyota Automobile Museum has accumulated a world-class collection of prominent cars from around the world, which are maintained and showcased to highlight the historical transitions of automotive cultures and technologies. The main building, which opened in April 1989, now exhibits about 120 vehicles from around the world. The collection is the fruit of our research into the progress of automotive technologies and cultures since the gasoline-powered automobile was born. The Annex opened in April 1999 in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the museum. This building showcases the history of Japan's motorization with a collection of everyday paraphernalia from various periods. The collection demonstrates how thoroughly the automobile has become interwoven into the fabric of our daily life and culture. We hope the wide array of vehicles displayed at the museum will spur your imagination, give you the thrill of discovery, and leave you feeling excited about the future of people and the automobile. *Image is not necessarily one of the museum.
